SCH 4U - Grade 11 Review

Nomenclature

You will find all types of nomenclature discussed in the SCH 3U lessons.  Simply search the blog for the type of naming you wish to review or click the links below.

You are responsible for:  Binary, Stock, Prefix, Ous-Ic, Tertiary & Tetrary*, Radicals, Acids (Binary & Oxy), Acid Salts, Hydrates and Peroxides.

* there are three new anions this year: oxalate (C2O42-), thiocynate (SCN-) and thiosulfate (S2O32-).

Chemical Calculations

We need many different types of calculations in SCH 3U.  Although all these calculations are useful, we will focus on the following:

MOLES ➤   n=m/M          n=N/NA

              ➤   Recall: NA = 6.02 x 1023 particles/mol

GASES ➤  individual gas laws (Charles', Boyle's, Gay-Lussac's, Combined), which can be derived from the Ideal Gas Law

             ➤  PV=nRT

             ➤  Recall:  R = 8.314 kPaL/Kmol

SOLUTIONS  ➤   n=cV     c1V1 = c2V2

CONDITIONS     STP (273.15 K, 101.325 kPa)

                           ➤   SATP (298.15 K, 100.0 kPa)

                           ➤   Recall: ___K = ___°C + 273.15

You are responsible for using the correct format for all chemical calculations.

Stoichiometry

You will find lessons on stoichiometry discussed in the SCH 3U lessons.  Simply search the blog for the stoichiometry lessons you wish to review or click the links below.

You are responsible for the using the proper format for the following types of stoichiometry calculations:  mole ratios, mass-to-mass, limiting & excess reactants, percentage yield, gas stoich, solution stoich.

You will be assessed on these three categories.  Your test will consist of approximately 25% nomenclature, 25% chemical calculations and 50% stoichiometry.
