SCH 3U - Nomenclature - Acid Salts

An acid salt is formed when a metal replaces some of the hydrogen atoms in the ‘-ic’ oxyacid.

Name	Formula
hydrogen carbonate	HCO3-
hydrogen sulfate	HSO4-
hydrogen sulfite	HSO3-
hydrogen phosphate	HPO42-
dihydrogen phosphate	H2PO4-

The acid salt formula is used in a similar manner as the previously introduced complex anions.
